Biomedical Science and Research Journals | Non-contraceptive Effects of Subdermal Levonogestrel Implant on Endometriosis Patient : A Case Report

Non-contraceptive Effects of Subdermal Levonogestrel Implant on Endometriosis Patient : A Case Report Abstract Introduction:  Endometriosis is characterized as the presence of ectopic endometrial gland outside the uterus. Levonorgestrel (LNG) subdermal implant is a reversible contraception with high effectivity. we report a case of endometrioma with significant pain reduction following insertion of LNG implant. Case Report:  38 years-old patients with bilateral endometrial cyst. Patient complained of pain in left lower abdomen during menstruation with VAS 7-8. Patient had undergone surgery to remove the right endometrial cyst, however, follow up ultrasonography examination 5 months following surgery showed recurrence of cyst on the right ovary. We treated the patient with levonogestrel subdermal implant. Discussion:  Studies showed high effectiveness of ENG implant in improving pain symptoms, however there is still limited data regarding LNG implant effectiveness. ...

Biomedical Science and Research Journals | Association/Dissociation of Caveolin-1 and Nitric Oxide Synthase in Preserving Renal Medulla Function during Hemorrhage and Aging

Association/Dissociation of Caveolin-1 and Nitric Oxide Synthase in Preserving Renal Medulla Function during Hemorrhage and Aging Abstract Background:  Caveolin-1 is a negative regulator of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), as its interaction and binding suppress the activity of eNOS by making caveolin–eNOS complex. The critical role of caveolin-1 and eNOS in the renal medulla during hypovolemic state and aging is unclear. Objective:  To investigate changes in the renal medulla the activity and protein levels of the different NOS forms, changes in the abundance of caveolin-1 and caveolin-1/eNOS association in response to acute hemorrhage in young and middle-aged rats. Methods:  In the present study we determined: i) NOS activity and protein levels of the different NOS isoforms, ii) the abundance of caveolin-1 and, iii) caveolin-1/eNOS association during hypovolemic state of young and middle-aged rats in the kidney. Results:  We have demonstrated that c...

Biomedical Science and Research Journals | Can Climate and Environmental Factors Putatively Increase SARS-Cov2 Transmission Risks?

Can Climate and Environmental Factors Putatively Increase SARS-Cov2 Transmission Risks? Abstract After the identification of the first SARS-COV-2 infected cases in China, the virus was rapidly disseminated among the distinct continents and the COVID-19 pandemics was announced by the WHO in March 2020. Over time, the epidemiological sceneries varied among countries, according to the adopted mitigation measures and epidemic phase. Recently, a recrudescence of the epidemics has been observed in distinct countries. SARSCoV- 2 can be transmitted by direct or indirect contact. The viral RNA has been detected in stool and other clinical specimens from infected patients and a putative fecal-oral transmission has been argued. Viruses are shed in human excreta, further disposed into the sewerage system or into the environment, in poor sanitation settings. Thus, SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been regularly detected in wastewater and surface water impacted by the direct discharge of sewage. Some studie...

Biomedical Science and Research Journals | Adverse Effects of Energy Drinks, a Challenge for Medicine: A Case Report.

Adverse Effects of Energy Drinks, a Challenge for Medicine: A Case Report. Abstract In Mexico, an estimate of the monthly average consumption of these drinks was 36,240,000 liters [1]. The use of these products is to increase energy levels during physical activity or exam periods to avoid sleep. Despite the increase in its use, there is ignorance in its consumers about its level of safety in its consumption [2]. Energy drinks (ED) appeared on the market as a mixture of carbohydrates, vitamins, and caffeine. Later, alcohol blends were made for cocktails, so their popularity increased. The high consumption of ED is due to the mental stimulating effect by the high levels of caffeine, taurine and glucuronolactone [3]. The case of a patient is reported who presents jaundice and an abnormal liver function with symptoms of a disease sui generis, after two weeks of consuming ED. He was not diagnosed since the symptoms still represent a challenge for medicine. When the patient stop pendin...

Biomedical Science and Research Journals | Research of Gestational Risk by Primary Health Care Professionals in Brazil

Research of Gestational Risk by Primary Health Care Professionals in Brazil Summary In Brazil, the reduction of preventable causes of maternal mortality is a major challenge for health professionals. The Ministry of Health recommends the assessment of gestational risk in prenatal consultations. In this sense, a research is being carried out with the purpose of verifying how the assessment of gestational risk is made by nurses and doctors, who are the professionals who perform prenatal care. The municipality of Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, was chosen to carry out the research, as it is one of the places with high indicators of maternal mortality. Data collection consists of filling in a checklist with demographic, social, environmental and health variables, all related to high gestational risk and that guide the actions to be taken to avoid complications that may lead to maternal death. This survey of how gestational risk assessment is carried out will provide subsidies to improve...
